Ms. Nicole Bottomley, Holliston High School principal, opened the 2019 National Honor Society Induction Ceremony in the Holliston High School Auditorium Tuesday night. Considered the most important ceremony in any chapter of the National Honor Society, the induction ceremony recognizes new members of the chapter publicly. Ms. Bottomley and Superintendent Bradford Jackson did just that.

Jackson described his pride in each of the student’s success and their contributions to the academic community.

The Holliston High School NHS Advisor, as well as English Teacher and favorite Girls’ Cross-Country Coach, Mrs. Murphy, took pride in introducing the four Senior Officers who addressed the four main purposes that have guided chapters of NHS from the beginning: To create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of secondary schools. 

Elise Miller spoke to scholarship;

Dana Zapolin to service;

Lauran Salley of leadership and,

Abha Athawale of character.

Teacher Beverly Ryan was also chosen as honorary NHS member. Not only is she a well-respected geometry teacher and Best Buddies Club Advisor, but students and committee members recognized her as a “true role model” for HHS students.

There were 33 new members inducted, and 64 members reinducted.

All honor students recited the NHS Honor Code together after receiving their awards:

“I promise to uphold the Aristos Chapter Honor Code and to follow the rules and regulations in the Holliston High School Student Handbook.  I will be a leader to my fellow students, exemplifying excellent scholarship and character, both in school and out.  I promise to serve my school and community in as many ways as possible.  I am proud to have been selected to be a role model for my fellow peers, and I will be the best role model I can be.”

The following day, Mrs. Murphy commented “This night truly is such an honor for me because not only does it highlight all the incredible work done by the club collectively, but, more importantly, it recognizes the dedication the members have for service to their community. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with such an impressive group of students.”
